Coaching aims to create a heightened self-awareness in a person and help them to take greater responsibility for their choices and actions. This enables better decision-making and enhances a person’s ability to manage themself in any context.
The focus of discussions in a coaching session depends largely on the person being coached and what they feel they need to work on. The first session is normally spent exploring and prioritising areas of work or personal / professional competency that are important to the coachee and to clarify the purpose and process of coaching. From then, each follow up session will focus on one or more of those areas and, through careful questioning and practical exercises which, for example, increase a coachee's self-awareness, help them find new ways of solving problems or making decisions etc. and help them to build a "toolkit" of options for dealing with new or challenging situations and to:
